Founded in March 2003,
in a house with a garden in old Bucharest, a detail that would mark its identity, was born of a desire to create a fair, ethical and sustainable place of work and interaction between artists, the public and collectors, both public or private. Closely involved in the art industry, the gallery has initiated and participated in numerous collaborative projects, and has supported and where necessary criticized public institutions during moments of change, contributing to the creation of an equitable and transparent environment for all cultural workers.
At the heart of the gallery’s vision is the artist as an engaged intellectual and a producer and initiator of contexts and ideas, and, together with other institutional actors, it seeks to offer sustainability to the artists with whom it works. The gallery’s work with artists has involved not only the display and sale of their works, but also contextualization and support during the process of creation and production. With a portfolio spanning different generations, the gallery remains deeply committed to working with young artists.
In the last decade, Galeria Posibilă has focused on the idea of “the use of landscape”, in a contemporary understanding of the term, through permanent deconstruction and discussion, creating transdisciplinary interactions with anthropologists, artists, biologists, ecologists and landscape artists. Another recurring focus of the gallery is the sustainability of young artists, supporting, through its master’s program, the most dynamic emerging artists, together with whom in recent years it has also begun to explore new fields of research.
As one of the first and leading institutions involved in the publication of artists’ books and art publications, Galeria Posibilă is helping to foster a vision for this particular field. Each year, Galeria Posibilă publishes various catalogs, artists’ books, research volumes and monographic works, and is actively involved in seminal projects for the book community, such as Sounds Like a Book, Cele Mai Frumoase Cărți, and Foi magazine, as well as through its participation in fairs and the holding of public debates.
Galeria Posibilă is an institution for the promotion and dissemination of local art which is also receptive to and interested in a contextualization beyond the local, Romanian geographic space.
