PETITE HISTOIRE, an essay about vernacular and accident in photography, by Oana Tănase, Magda Radu, Matei Câlția, Eugen Gustea and Nicu Ilfoveanu concentrates on anonymous photography from Romania, but neither does it claim to be a history nor a nostalgic album.

It began with the materials selected from various collections, PETITE HISTOIRE is a fresh essay, a fresh view on author-less photography, a book which broadens our perspectives on experiment and failure in photography. A series of texts completes this approach, and clarifies the relationship between contemporary thinking and the intimacy of the experimentalism of some amateur photographs.

From the beginning, the project took into account the roads explored by Tacita Dean, Martin Parr, Robert Flynn Johnson and others, but its particularity lays in the geography of the photographic production. This first book is part of a bigger series, having the aim to contribute on the understanding of photography in Romania and of a particular aesthetics that the contemporary artists bring in.
