MASTER 2023
06.07 — 11.08
We are pleased to have two master's students with us, Delia Prodan and Irina Motroc, who exhibit their dissertation works in the space of Galeria Posibilă. The opening of the MASTER 2023 exhibition took place on July 6th 2023.
"As I lay this stone down, I wonder whether it will miss me"
Delia Andrada Prodan
Delia A. Prodan focuses her practice around ordinary objects and raw materials, captured in their moments of fragility. From pieces of marble and concrete to metal and brick, the way she works reveals a nostalgic and empathetic perspective. For her, objects are alive: they bruise, crack, and tell stories. Interested in both photography and (recently) sculpture, she often utilizes text and books, analogies, and fractured narratives.
"Marble has multiple meanings and references, especially in terms of its use throughout the history of art, as well as a reference to the landscape and the process of mountain extraction and exploitation. However, my interest in materials arose from the idea of 'in between,' from the need to discover what happens when everything is still in a state of potential. Thus, I turned to the studio space, not that of the artist, but the mundane, commercial one (a decision inspired by my parents' involvement in this type of material processing at some point). I found that the relationship between the one who handles the stone and the stone itself is a very close one, and fragmentation was what completely attracted me to it. I started to see this fragmentation as interdependent: marble is the one divided by metal discs, constantly observed, manipulated, but it is also the one that deteriorates and responds. Both the material and the one who handles it are trapped in this state of paradoxical fragility and a secret process."
"Here I Stood"
Irina Motroc
Irina Motroc is particularly interested in exploring social space and themes that address the psycho-affective sphere, combining self-referentiality with collective memory. From personal events to social contexts, the artist seeks to reactivate perception of a shared past, analyzing the traces left by personal histories that define and reflect in the collective behavior of a generation.
"Here I Stood documents the reconstruction of a space through the filter of memory, mapping an interior framework in an attempt to reconstruct an image by piecing together parts of a fractured memory. How do you recompose a place that no longer exists? How do you keep it alive? What remains when there is nothing left?
Here I Stood speaks about the attempt to reconstitute the memory of a home - the indexing of an emotion, of details. It is a process that involves the appropriation of both a thought from the past and a present place, reconnecting, exploring, and understanding space in a current context. It brings up transformation, suggesting how nature gradually takes control over human-created areas and emphasizes its persistence in reclaiming space and redefining the landscape.
The project aims to construct a visual narrative that foregrounds the idea of absence and what takes the place of absence, exploring ways in which they can be represented and interpreted, using organic matter as a basis for recomposition and creating a dialogue between the present and memory.
The project investigates the idea of memory that becomes contaminated over time. As we return to it, the memory transforms with each retrieval, influenced by the emotions associated with the moment of remembrance.
Here I Stood is not just a statement about the past; it is an invitation to analyze and reconsider memories in the present, to explore the complexity of our identity through the lens of memory.”
