Denise Lobonț
(b. 1995, Deva, Romania) uses the format of the documentary as a tool to discuss narrations in which established social constructs are exposed and questioned. Her practice is motivated by approaching subjects such as gender identity, minority inclusion and ecology. Since 2019, she has had an ongoing project documenting the Roma men who sell flowers, dismantling gender stereotypes, and during 2020 she participated in an art residency focusing on giving a voice to the Roma women that face discrimination in Romania.
She took part in an artist residence at the Urban Nation Museum for Contemporary Art in Berlin, where she undertook investigative research around Romanian seasonal workers. She was part of group exhibitions as 'Diploma' - National Festival of Emerging Artists (UNA Gallery, Bucharest,2020), 'The Use of Landscape' (Ausstellungsraum der Akademie der bildenden Künste, Vienna, 2021), or solo exhibitions as 'Unweaving Stereotypes' (WASP, 2020, Bucharest).
